Janet Schulz is originally from New Jersey where she completed a baccalaureate degree in Fine Arts Education. She worked in the commercial art field for many years as a graphic artist before studying portrait painting in oils under Marion Hale Nelson. Though she received commissions to paint oil portraits of adults and children, her artistic passion has always been working with watercolors. She loves the fluidity and sensitivity of watercolor and though she works in watercolor almost exclusively she also enjoys employing other mediums including oils, pen and inks, and acrylics to create her paintings.
Her work has appeared in national magazines and she illustrated two children's books. Most recently, her watercolors were featured in Ferenc Mate's The World's Best Sailboats II and Janet herself was named a “Legend of Bristol " in Legendary Locals of Bristol, by Christy Nadalin pub.2015.
Now Janet has expanded her artistic interests to human portraits again, and is focusing on the beauty of brides by capturing each bride or couple in an engaging portrait, to be framed and remain a reminder of that special day. Painted from a bride’s favorite photograph, Janet's unique style is "contemporary realism style with a hint of fashion illustration.” Each bridal portrait is original artwork rendered in watercolors and mixed media on archival paper. Janet’s portraits are a unique and treasured gift for any bride.
